FRAUDULENT TEXTS ALERT
There has been an increase in the number of smishing, or SMS phishing, attempts reported in the area. Smishing is when cybercriminals send out mass fraudulent text messages to try and lure victims to give up sensitive information like debit card information, passwords, or personal information. They may also include a malicious link that could download malware to your device or send you to a fake website.
Smishing attempts often try to appear as if they are coming from your financial institution and say things like, “Your account has been frozen, click here to verify your information.” CUSB Bank does not send text messages that an account has been frozen.
Please note that the bank may send a message through our debit card provider, Shazam, if there are indications of fraudulent use of your debit card. Those messages will simply ask for a “Yes” or “No” if recent transactions are valid. CUSB Bank will never request personal information by text message.
